projects - private house, cumbernauld
conversion of a single-storey, mid-terraced cottage into a 2-storey residence creating elevated views of the surrounding countryside. whilst the street frontage remains unaltered, the rear side of the roof and rear walls are conceived as a single, fluid ‘protective’ cloak which wraps the building, and is stopped short or cropped to reveal warmer timber-clad panels where touch is required to operate moveable parts of the house. windows offer strategic and incidental viewpoints and strip rooflights provide natural daylighting deep into the house.
